More about Mariela

Mariela started her studies of Ashtanga yoga in 2003 at KPJAYI in Mysore, India with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois and in the year 2009, she was granted authorization level II. She since then travels annually to Mysore to study with her teacher Parmaguru Sharath Jois.

Her roots to yoga started way back when she was 5 years old. She had always been naturally inclined towards spiritual awareness since she was little. She used to accompain her mother to yoga classes when she was 8 and eventually started practicing herself. She grew up and persued her law studies. At the age of 25 she found herself as a mom of two and after some more years, she had four kids and a painful divorce. Fortunately yoga found her and she started practicing ashtanga yoga in Costa Rica through the sharings of a teacher from Ohio. She fell in love with it and immediately decided to travel to India, a country that she truly respects and loves so much. Since than, her endless journey started. Ashtanga gave her back vitality and energy. She has a loving and authentic approach to all that she does, offering an incredible practice with the only intention of passing on the same lessons she has learned from her time in Mysore, India with her teachers and Gurus: Guruji and Sharath.

Accommodation and Facilities

Our retreat centre is set in 2.5 acres of grounds in a valley filled with olive and almond groves.

Accommodation consists of seven twin/double bedrooms all with private ensuite bathrooms and AC for the hottest summer months. We are renovating all rooms to a high standard using locally sourced materials, and are aiming to create a luxurious yet simple and understated feel. A large outdoor courtyard will provide the main communal eating space, and several outdoor terraces offer a place to relax in the sun or the shade.

Situated at the heart of the complex, the swimming pool acts like a colourful meeting point – with the blue water combining with the green olive trees and the red soil.

The international airport at Brindisi is approximately 40 minutes drive away and Bari is further to the north approximately 55 minutes drive. Hiring a car in Puglia is relatively inexpensive and provides a great way to explore the surrounding countryside, local historical towns and beaches. Both Bari and Brindisi airports have a large selection of hire car companies including Avis and Hertz. It is recommended to book a car before your arrival.
