Ashtanga Yoga Retreat with Lauren Munday & Cathy Moran

About the Retreat

This is the 4th retreat Cathy and Lauren have run together since meeting and becoming friends in Mysore in 2013.  Their intention for this retreat, as always is to create a space for students to deepen their understanding of Ashtanga yoga and cultivate a daily practice; whilst also having time to rest and restore in a beautiful and peaceful setting.

 

Each day will begin with a morning mysore session, including a beginners intro for those new to yoga; and will be followed by a group brunch.  There’ll be free time during the day to relax by the pool or explore the surrounding area, with an option to take group trips if desired.  The group will come together for four afternoon workshops, allowing students to delve deeper into Ashtanga Yoga, as well as also experiencing the profoundly restorative practice of Yoga Nidra. Each evening dinner will be shared on the courtyard.

 

Having two teachers on one retreat, means students will benefit from lots of personal attention from experienced teachers who have already run a number of successful retreats together.

There will be plenty of free time to kick back and relax by the pool; explore the surrounding area; or take a trip to the beach which is around a 25 minute drive away.

About Cathy & Lauren

Cathy is the founder of Ashtanga Yoga Glasgow and is Glasgow’s only Authorised teacher.  She’s been practicing yoga since 1999 and in 2008 she made her first trip to study at The Krishna Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India. Since then she has dedicated her life to the practice, study, and teaching of the Ashtanga Yoga Method, returning to Mysore regularly for extended periods of study with her teacher R Sharath Jois. In 2014 she received level 2 authorisation to teach the primary and intermediate series

Cathy established Glasgow’s first morning mysore self practice programme 7 years ago and over the years has taught many of the teachers currently working in and around Glasgow. She endeavours to teach with integrity, to share and pass this method on to others as it was taught to her, in an approachable, friendly and compassionate way.

Lauren has been practicing yoga since her early twenties and studying Ashtanga Yoga under the guidance of Hamish Hendry since 2007.  She began travelling to Mysore to study at the source of Ashtanga Yoga in 2010 and received Authorisation to teach in 2013.  Lauren has been teaching various Mysore programs in London since 2013 and now teaches at both Astanga Yoga London and Triyoga, two of London’s most popular studios.  Lauren is passionate about making the benefits of a regular yoga practice accessible to all and holds a diploma in Yoga Therapy, which she gained through Yoga Campus.  She has a Level 1 iRest Yoga Nidra qualification and now incorporates afternoon sessions of Yoga Nidra into her retreats.

Accommodation and Facilities

Our retreat centre is set in 2.5 acres of grounds in a valley filled with olive and almond groves.  

 

Accommodation consists of seven twin bedrooms all with private ensuite.  We have renovated all rooms to a high standard using locally sourced materials, and are aiming to create a luxurious yet simple and understated feel. A large outdoor courtyard provides the main communal eating space, and several outdoor terraces offer a place to relax in the sun or the shade.

 

Situated at the heart of the complex, the swimming pool acts like a colourful meeting point – with the blue water combining with the green olive trees and the red soil.

The international airport at Brindisi is approximately 40 minutes drive away and Bari is further to the north approximately 55 minutes drive.  Hiring a car in Puglia is relatively inexpensive and provides a great way to explore the surrounding countryside, local historical towns and beaches. Both Bari and Brindisi airports have a large selection of hire car companies including Avis and Hertz. It is recommended to book a car before your arrival. Alternatively, we can arrange a taxi to collect you on your arrival.
