Ashtanga Yoga Retreat

with Claire Berghorst

9th  to 15th September  2023

About the Retreat

Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga is a journey within, allowing us to connect with ourselves and then the world around. As we meet over six days in this beautiful setting we have the opportunity to explore our practice, look deeper, find new strength... and softness, a connection to ourselves; and then take that back off the mat into our lives with loving kindness.

Each morning Claire will support you in your individual Ashtanga practice, sharing her knowledge and experience. We will then meet as a group for brunch. We have 2 afternoon workshops which will allow you to alternate between having chill out days at the pool, or the option to go exploring when we are not delving into techniques, philosophy and breath-work in the afternoon workshops. Each evening we will meet for a silent sitting, after a group vegetarian/vegan dinner.

More about Claire

Claire is a practitioner and senior teacher of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, based in Surrey, UK. Yoga has been an integral part of her adult life and she started teaching on a full time basis in 2008 after moving to the UK with her family. Her main teacher is the world renowned John Scott, who shares his vast knowledge of the practice with much love and kindness. She has completed the Ashtanga 3rd series with John, a challenging practice that balances strength and grace in equal measure.

Claire’s passion for yoga is readily experienced through her teachings, where she welcomes students of all abilities. She believes that the practice should be supportive and adaptable to the individual, creating a sustainable practice. She passionately believes in empowering students to develop a nurturing regular practice. Her teaching style is open and supportive of the individual.

For Claire, yoga is an internal exploration of self discovery that should be kind and honest, yet fun. She enjoys finding that perfect balance between strength, flexibility and a steady mind. This balance translates into her own life, where her passion for family, health, wellness and abundance merge.

Accommodation and Facilities

Our retreat centre is set in 2.5 acres of grounds in a valley filled with olive and almond groves.

Accommodation consists of six twin rooms  and one double room all with private ensuite bathroom. All rooms have been renovated to a high standard using locally sourced materials, to create a luxurious yet simple and understated feel. A large outdoor courtyard provides the main communal eating space, and several outdoor terraces offer a place to relax in the sun or the shade.

Situated at the heart of the complex, the swimming pool acts like a colourful meeting point – with the blue water combining with the green olive trees and the red soil.

Food plays a central role in both our yoga practice and life. We believe food should be varied, unprocessed and nourishing to promote energy and wellbeing. The food we serve is predominantly plant based with some vegetarian options. All produce we source and grow at YogApulia is local, seasonal and organic wherever possible.

Refreshments are also available throughout the day and include tea, coffee, water & fruit.

The international airport at Brindisi is approximately 40 minutes drive away and Bari is further to the north approximately 55 minutes drive. Hiring a car in Puglia is relatively inexpensive and provides a great way to explore the surrounding countryside, local historical towns and beaches. Both Bari and Brindisi airports have a large selection of hire car companies including Avis and Hertz. It is recommended to book a car before your arrival. Alternatively, we can arrange a taxi to collect you on your arrival.
